The TIF Procedure

An Effective Solution for Chronic Acid Reflux

Acid reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are conditions in which acid from the stomach flows up into the esophagus. People with this condition will experience heartburn symptoms when excessive amounts of acid reflux reach the esophagus. Most often, patients with GERD also have a hiatal hernia. In this situation, depending on the need for a hiatal hernia repair, the majority of health insurance plans will pay for the TIF procedure when combined with laparoscopic hiatal hernia surgery. Data has shown the concomitant hiatal hernia repair with the TIF procedure can successfully eliminate GERD.

When GERD is not treated, serious complications can occur, such as esophageal stricture (a narrowing of the esophagus), bleeding, or a pre-cancer change in the lining of the esophagus called Barrett’s esophagus.

At San Francisco Center for Acid Reflux and GERD, we provide the latest endoscopic treatments to safely and effectively treat acid reflux and GERD.

“We’re excited to offer our patients the life-changing benefits of minimally invasive, endoscopic procedures to eliminate GERD and acid reflux. Clinical trials show that most patients who have our procedure can stop taking acid reflux medication or reduce their dependence on acid reflux medication. They can usually start eating foods and drinking beverages they avoided in the past and stop sleeping propped up.
Acid reflux/GERD no longer impacts their life like it previously did.”
